Q:    Can a motorcycle officer set up a speed trap out of his jurisdiction?  Officer is from miami springs. He was in Miami dade / airport area hiding doing a speed trap out of his jurisdiction. Can he legally give speeding tickets from setting up a speed trap out of jurisdiction?

Answered Not unless there is a "mutual aid agreement" or a "joint task force".

While on routine duty officers must patrol - or "lie in wait" as the case may be - in their own jurisdictions.

That said, before you make that argument in Court be 100% sure that the geographic boundaries are what you believe them to be. Many jurisdictions in Miami-Dade have bizarre lines and jutting expanses into what one would not logically believe to be a part of its territory.

Further, you should probably not make the argument yourself anyhow. Even if you were a lawyer (which you probably aren't) you'd be a fool to represent yourself.

The best defense for any traffic citation anywhere is to hire a local traffic ticket lawyer.
