Travis Husnik and Heather Basten are probably the drunkest, most brazen couple since Bonnie and Clyde. This 33 y/o man and 29 y/o woman were arrested for drunken driving, the how and why of which I do not know, but what happened next, the pair started having sex in the back of the squad car while being transported to jail, well, that's just a special sort of passion.
These 2 must be really, really into each other, because I can't imagine a less sexy place and circumstance to be getting it on than in the back of a squad car being transported to the station when you're on the hook for a DUI, but who knows? Maybe its more romantic or exciting than I imagine? Perhaps the officer was playing Sade on the squad car stereo and maybe she just looks so fetching in the pulsating red and blue lights that Travis just couldn't resist. Maybe the time was just right? Maybe the cop should have handcuffed them? Or perhaps they should have been transported separately?
Per Oconto County, WI, Circuit Court Judge Jay Conley during the sentencing:: "I'm getting to be pretty old guy and I've never seen that situation in my legal life. It's not like you have a lot of law school courses or training on what do you sentence a guy who has sex in a squad car to."
Assistant District Attorney Robert Mraz asked The Judge to sentence the fellow to time served of 9 days, the amount of time he was held until posting $1,500 bond, but the Judge gave him 90 days instead stating: "At a minimum, the mildest word that I can think of, the most favorable word I can think of, is your conduct is completely disrespectful to the officer... The process of being arrested is supposed to be somewhat unpleasant ... and you end up having a tryst. Incredible."
The Judge, having found the man's lengthy criminal record to involve a history of disrespect to law enforcement and to include 19 prior convictions, with 4 felonies, encompassing 1 for battery to law enforcement and 3 for resisting or obstructing officer convictions, said: "This is probably the least offensive thing that you did to law enforcement... I'll acknowledge your past offenses are worse than this, but given these plea negotiations that you're now down to a humble disorderly conduct, with your record, you absolutely in my judgment deserve the maximum."
Free legal tip of the day: Its not just what you say, its also what you do... When it comes to the subject of cops and courts its almost always best to err on the side of being conservative and quiet.
When it comes to the subject of drinking and driving, the best advice that you are ever going to hear is: "Don't do it! Get a DD (Designated Driver), not a DUI".
Be smart{er than Travis Husnik and Heather Basten}: Don't drink and drive, but, if you do, just say "NO{thing}", don't blow (in FL your 2nd subsequent refusal is a crime) and call me stat at 305-381-8686, 305-798-2220, **ARRESTED, **305DUI, **MIAMIDUI, **MIAMILAW or **HABERLAW.
