What do you do when someone that you did something wrong with is blackmailing you? ~ "Best Answer" on AVVO.com ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Q:     Blackmail - What are my options?  What are my options if someone if blackmailing me for money and in exchange they won't tell my job of criminal acts that I did in 2013. (This person has been aware of the acts and participated except the documents that they have only point to me) If I go ahead and come clean (I am sick of the blackmail threats), what are my options of getting them with blackmail?  I have texts, emails, and recorded phone calls of the blackmail threats.

Answered Call the police and file a report. The cops will either take and run with it or they will blow you off. If you get blown off then you can hire your own criminal defense lawyer to serve as your Victim's Right's Advocate. In FL the State Attorney is the prosecuting authority, and while no one can control what the State does on behalf of the people, you can greatly increase your odds at achieving a favorable outcome if you have an effective victim's rights advocate pursuing your agenda.

You are also free to file a civil lawsuit for defamation of character.

But note that anything that you do will likely highlight that which you seek to hide.

Note also that, regardless of the positive outcome, your criminal arrest is a matter of public record unless and until you expunge it, but even then it will never be "erased" from the internet and can (and likely will) still come back to haunt you in time.

I hope that I have been helpful in answering your question.
