Bank Customer foils Bank Robbery by Detaining Robber at Gunpoint until Cops Arrive ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Meet Mark Matchem, a 25 y/o Chicagoan.  That's him below, posing all bad for the camera...

And here's his booking photo.... (not looking quite so bad as shocked)....

Mark is charged with "robbery by intimidation" (he did not possess or use a weapon during the commission of the crime) for robbing a Marietta, IL Wells Fargo (the one pictured below in fact) on Tuesday, March 24th, 2015.

Mark walked into the Marietta Wells Fargo, approached a teller and presented a demand note. Unfortunately for Mark another bank customer watched the robbery go down and decided to take action.  The still unnamed civilian (who reportedly is a military veteran) followed Mark out of the bank, grabbed his firearm out of his car, then chased Mark down and tackled him to the ground, ordering him to stay on the pavement and holding him there at gunpoint until police arrived on the scene.  Another civilian happened to be in the right place at the right time observed the tackle and took a photo (below) of the scene outside of the bank.

Per the civilian who captured the scene:  "I immediately knew by the way the man was standing, his stance, he was in control of the situation...  When you see a situation that ain't right, some people still do the right thing."  A woman named Charise Debarros who lives near the bank said that it was "wonderful" that someone was willing to take action against the "bad people out there".

Memo to the Folks:   As a general rule cops don't like, and they never encourage, vigilantism. So before you go out to save thew world all ala Charles Bronson, please remember that in the heat of the moment it isn't unreasonable for a cop to mistake a citizen for a bad guy.  It also isn't beyond the realm of reasonable foreseeability that your act of chivalry or good samaritanism could blow up in your face.

Memo to the would-be-bad-guys:  In a 2nd Amendment society it's not just the cops that you have to watch out for.  BOLO the citizens.  And govern yourselves accordingly!
