Meet 32 y/o Owen Fazenbaker III, of Somerset County, PA. That's him below....
On Monday, March 23rd, Owen showed up at the Somerset County Courthouse seeking relief from a child support ruling. Pretty building isn't it?
But, instead of getting a break on his child support payments Owen had to cough up $500.00 to avoid a ten (10) day jail sentence for each of the eleven (11) times that he missed appearing for jury duty. Said Somerset County Judge D. Gregory Geary: "[I find it] ironic that Fazenbaker could find his way to court for that {seeking child support relief} but couldn't show up when called for jury duty." Owen paid his $500.00 and promised to appear the next time that he is summoned for jury duty.
Memo to Owen (and the Folks): Lots and lots of Americans died so as to afford you the privilege of being able to serve on a jury, and right about now they are impersonating rotisserie chickens. If you are summoned to serve then serve, please. Thank you.
