Q: My attorney's office number has been disconnected temporarily and he is not answering his cell what are my options? I was placed on probation in a state I do not live in, my attorney said he put in a motion for administrative probation since my emergency transfer was denied. I've been on probation for 9 months and need to go home. My attorney is MIA and I want to find out about my motion and what my options are to ask for early termination when that comes up in 3 months. My attorney has been paid in full. The case is in Gainesville, FL but I am currently staying with family in Palmetto because that was the only option at the time. I have never been in this situation before and I don't know what to do. Someone please help me I am so frustrated with the legal system at this point.
Answered . First thing you should do is to contact the Florida Bar and file a grievance. This is not only for you but also for how many other clients your lawyer may have left in the dark. The link to the Bar is:
Next you need to find another lawyer (a G-ville lawyer) to determine fact versus fiction and properly advise you as to the status of your case. ET is an easy process - IF - everything is in order, but, from reading your question I have no confidence that everything is in fact in order.
I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with one of my colleagues. Each bad lawyer makes a ton of good hardworking ethical attorneys appear equally bad - and that is unfortunate for all of us (the clients, the "good" lawyers and the general public). I'm guessing that your frustration is probably more accurately focused on the individual lawyer rather than the whole system, but what do I know... I'm just a guy in Miami trying to help.
