NY Murder DefendantPunches his Lawyer in the Face after being found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Meet 31 y/o Alejandro Morales of Manhattan.  That's him below...

On Wednesday, July 1st, 2015 Morales was acquitted by a NY jury of murder charges. He was found not guilty of manslaughter by reason of insanity instead.  Six (6) years ago Morales stabbed his then nine (9) y/o cousin, Anthony Maldonado (pictured below), to death over an argument about the Tony Hawk skateboarding game.

Police said that Morales stabbed the child several times, that he fled the apartment barefoot and that he hid the murder weapon in a trash can.  At the time of the murder, Morales - who had been repeatedly diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia - was on parole for an assault conviction and was taking anti-psychotic medication.  In the murder case Prosecutor Peter Casolaro argued that, despite his mental illness, Morales would have known right from wrong when picking up a knife and stabbing the child, but the jury apparently sided with the defense witness in declining to hold Morales criminally responsible because of his mental illness. In Morales' defense a forensic psychiatrist testified that in the days leading up to the murder Morales was having delusions about being chased by giant rats and gang members.

Fred Sosinsky (pictured below), the Manhattan lawyer who successfully argued that his murder client suffered from severe mental illness found out just how unstable Morales really is when he, Fred, after the not guilty verdict was handed down, explained to Morales, who was apparently under the impression he could walk free, was actually being sent to a mental hospital.  At that point Morales "flipped out", leaving Fred  with a swollen lip and cheek.  Per reports, as the jury found him not guilty by reason of mental defect, Morales lashed out in a violent scene that required about fifteen (15) court officers to take him down.  He punched his attorney in the jaw, rammed into the prosecutors table, swung his fists at the guards and ended up being pinned against the jury box, which, fortunately the jurors had already vacated.  Per Fred Sosinsky:  "He's a very disturbed and volatile man, and we saw stark evidence of that, unfortunately....  All hell broke loose.  My client's actions follow the verdict and bespeak the degree of volatility and the severity of his mental illness.  I'm not (pressing charges) because I'm confident that this is the result of – as I argued to the jury – a dangerously mentally ill person who needs to be in a secure psychiatric facility, not a state prison."

Looks like the jury got this one right because Alejandro Morales apparently is truly...
Memo to Alejandro Morales:  Crazy is as crazy does.  But there is a difference between being crazy and an ingrate.  Then again, I'm typing to a guy who stabbed his 9 y/o cousin to death over a freaking video game, so why I be surprised at your violently attacking the lawyer who got you out of a lifetime sentence in prison? Memo to Fred Sosinsky:  You are obviously a very good and effective lawyer (walking anyone on a NGI is no easy task, and you are 9.4 rated on AVVO) but you are also a good man.  I don't know that I'd've been quite as forgiving as you.  I'd like to think so but honestly I'm not sure.  I am sure that this was a tough case, a tough client and that you have earned the "Super Lawyer" award.  Mega props!
