Deputy Sheriff gets caught in Drug Sting and faces 30 years for Trafficking in Opoids over 20 Percocets and $40.00 ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Meet 38 y/o Jason Sigman, a soon-to-be-fired-and-prosecuted Osceola County, FL Deputy Sheriff.  That's his mug shot below....

Sigman was arrested on Saturday, July 25th, 2015 when he made arrangements to illegally purchase twenty (20) Percocet pills for $40.00 from a police confidential informant ("CI").  Like a good CI, once the deal was brokered s/he called her/his police handlers and arrangements were made for a controlled buy, which purchase and sale in fact occurred and resulted in Sigman's arrest.

To make matters worse (if they can be worse for a cop who makes an illegal narcotics buy from a CI) Sigman was both on-duty and in uniform when he made the illegal Percocet purchase.  If anyone should have known better...

For his incredible idiocy Sigman now faces thirty (30) years in prison with a three (3) year minimum-mandatory term of imprisonment and a mandatory $50,000.00 fine.  Why so much?  It's not because Sigman is, er was, a cop; rather it is because when it comes to certain controlled substances (including opioid - meaning any heroin derivative, Rx or not) what would normally be simple possession (a 3rd degree felony punishable by a max of five (5) years in state prison) automatically transforms into the crime of "trafficking" by virtue of nothing more than the actual physical weight of the substance.  In the case of opiates possession of a mere four (4) grams (which, in the case of Percocets usually translates to approximately .2 grams per pill) "bumps" the charge up to trafficking.

Sigman was taken into custody, reportedly admitted his intent to use the pills, was booked into the Osceola County Jail and posted a $50,000.00 bond.  Per the Osceola Sheriff's Office Sigman has been suspended without pay pending "the process of termination".    Memo to Jason Sigman:  How could you possibly have been a cop for seven (7) years and be so f'ing stupid as to buy dope on the street?  Do you not have a doctor or a clinic that you can go to?  As your Osceola County badge is as good as gone, and as I'm feeling particularly generous, here's an honorary badge for you...

Memo to the Folks:  Yeah, that may be harsh, but cops, judges, prosecutors, basically anyone in law enforcement, must be held to the highest standard.  You don't have to take my word for it, ask John Stewart...

Memo to the Legislature:  Yes, Jason Sigman is a moron and no, he should not be permitted the honor of wearing a badge, but the law, the trafficking statute (F.S. 893.135), is outrageous.  Thirty (30) years with a three (3) year "min-mand" for twenty (20) pills is f'ing insane.  I know that there is a serious pill problem and that it needs to be taken seriously but we're not talking radioactive material here... just a few Percocets.  Strip the douche of his law enforcement certification, maybe toss his ass in the pokey for a bit, but this statutory scheme is, well, re-donk-u-lous.
