Apart from the obvious, defending people who have been accused of violating the criminal code, conducting research, writing briefs and memos and litigating on our clients' behalf, as lawyer's we are called upon to wear many hats. 




We concurrently perform a variety of functions, including (but not ,limited to) serving as advisers, advocates, negotiators, intermediaries, spokespersons, evaluaters, counselors and legal representatives, but we also serve as choreographers, producers of sorts, considering and then taking the myriad of components of a given case and figuring out the most effective way to manipulate them into a working model for success. 




To me, trial theme and strategy are the most interesting aspects of the criminal defense practice.  In many ways this is also the most important component of a given case.   It is not until a theme has been developed that a viable strategy can be implemented, and no matter where the case may end up (in a plea, a dispositive motion or a trial) that theme (and strategy) will resonate throughout and right up until the very end.



While some lawyers focus on specific areas (for instance I am a criminal defense litigator) we must always keep an eye on the larger picture.
