Meet 29 y/o William Lamberson. That's his mug shot below...
Wild Bill fell victim to his own "texting FAIL!" when, while trying to reach out to his dope dealer, he mistakenly texted Captain Brian Bergen (pictured below), who just so happens to be the head of the Martin County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit, and asked him where to get some marijuana.
Being pitched such a soft ball Capt. Bergen decided to play along with Wild Bill... for weeks... until he was eventually able to nab his quarry on significantly more serious cocaine charges.
And on September 1st, 2015 Capt. Bergen's narcotics squad went in for the kill. Per a post on the Martin County Sheriff's Office Facebook page (which you can view by clicking here): "Lamberson [Bill] thought he was meeting his “hook up”, so he could sell some cocaine, instead, he was greeted by MCSO’s narcotics detectives."
And thus a "texting FAIL!" led to both a police social media boast ("WHEN TEXTING GOES WRONG - MAN LOOKING TO BUY AND SELL DRUGS MISTAKENLY TEXTS THE WRONG NUMBER, REACHES MCSO'S NARCOTICS CAPTAIN") and an arrest for possession of cocaine with intent to sell.
Memo to the Folks: Texting, social media... even phone calls... be careful.
