After DUI Arrest College Student Starts Driving Plastic Battery Powered Barbie Toy Car around Campus ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Meet 20 y/o Tara Monroe, a 5'3" junior at Texas State University who is majoring in industrial engineering.  That's her below....

And, after a March, 2015 DUI arrest and attendant loss of her driver license, those are her new hot "wheels" to her right.  Tara lost her driver privilege for refusing to provide a breath sample and blow into a breathalyzer after being stopped and asked to do so on her way home from a "Waka Flaka Flame" concert.  The State took her license away and her father took away her car, buying Tara a bicycle to help her get to and from classes.  Not happy biking around Tara took her lemons and made lemonade.

The engineering student put her skills to task and came up with an option... purchasing the pink-and-purple, 12-volt battery-operated, 5 mph cruising plastic Jeep for $60.00 on Craigslist.

After social media blew up with images (such as the one below) and video clips (one of which you can see on Twitter by clicking here) of Tara cruising campus in, er, on, her Barbie Jeep she was approached by media outlets, and Tara has gone on record saying that:  "It {buying and driving the Barbie "Jeep"} was the best decision that I've made in college yet".

Tara explained that when she went to pick up her new ride the vehicle's previous owner, a young girl named Charlene, looked around in confusion asking where was the little one who would be cruising in her Jeep, to which Tara replied:  "I'm the little one", and since then Tara has become something of a local attraction on the Texas State University-San Marcos campus, where she can be seen cruising daily in her, er, miniature automobile.

Tara said that she is flattered and surprised by all the attention that she has garnered by her cruising campus in her second-hand toy Jeep, which she has appropriately nicknamed "Charlene" after the little girl she bought it from.   Memo to Tara:  It's all fine and cute and creative but, if I suggest a better parking strategy (perhaps a bike lock) as if you are not careful, then "Charlene" will get towed and you will be back to pounding pavement.

Memo to the Folks:  I don't know the first thing about Texas law or procedure but in FL if you have a DUI license revocation then you cannot lawfully drive unless and until you get a license, restricted or otherwise.  Getting caught driving while serving a DUI revocation / suspension is the "Murder 1" of criminal traffic court, is 100% guaranteed to land you in jail and you will face a potential 364 day sentence. Further, if you decide to be creative, like Tara, then be careful.  I don't know about a 12-volt battery-operated, 5 mph cruising plastic Jeep but I can tell you that in Florida you can be cited for driving such things as a lawnmower or a moped, and you can get a DUI in FL on a motorized wheelchair or even a horse.    Thus, my advise...

When it comes to the subject of drinking and driving, the best advice that you are ever going to hear is:  "Don't do it!  Get a DD (Designated Driver), not a DUI".

Be smart{er than Tara Monroe}: Don't drink and drive, but, if you do, just say "NO{thing}", don't blow (in FL your 2nd subsequent refusal is a crime) and call me stat at 305-381-8686, 305-798-2220 or 1-888-SHARK-8-1.
