That up there is 27 y/o Courtney Nicole Howell of Layton, Utah and her now deceased 17 month old baby girl named Jaslynn Mansfield.
Jaslynn was killed (murdered in fact) on March 14th, 2014 when her complete f'ing idiot of a mother administered a lethal dose of methadone, allegedly in order to help the baby sleep. Howell (I can't bear to call her Courtney.... which is my girlfriend's, who is an incredible mother in her own right, name) reportedly called 911 when her daughter stopped breathing and the baby was taken to Davis Hospital and Medical Center where she later died. Howell never bothered to tell hospital staff that the child was given methadone, information which prosecutor's alleged would have saved the baby's life. Instead the baby died of "acute methadone toxicity". A subsequent search by police revealed baby bottles in the child’s bedroom, one (1) of which had methadone residue inside.
In July, 2015 Howell entered a guilty plea to one (1) count of manslaughter and one (1) count of causing a child to be exposed to a controlled substance (these were reduced charges from more serious felonies. In arguing for a leniency in sentencing Howell told Judge David Hamilton that she holds herself accountable for her daughter's death, that she will regret her choice to sedate her with methadone for the rest of her life and that she hopes to spend the rest of her her life raising awareness about drug abuse and child endangerment. Said Howell: "Trying to forgive myself is an endless battle I struggle with daily. I can't make up my wrong by giving my little girl back her life. I plan to take every opportunity given to me to help change myself and my life." But Judge Hamilton wasn't buying Howell's...
On Wednesday, August 26th, 2015 Judge Hamilton sentenced Howell to consecutive fifteen (15) year terms of imprisonment (she will serve thirty (30) years in prison). In doing so Judge Hamilton noted that the drug that killed baby Jaslynn was the very same drug that killed her father (Howell's baby dadda) just a few months earlier (this information came to surface when members of the baby's paternal family testified that Howell knew just how destructive methadone was because the baby's father died from a methadone overdose just a few months before the child was born). Adding insult to injury the Judge also noted that: "The child didn't have a chance" as apparently Jaslynn was also born addicted to methadone.
And, ironically, happy go lucky Howell...
Was still donning a smirky, smarmy smile in her mug shot....
But I gotta guess that her smile will go the way of the dinosaur as her baby killing self acclimates to her new residence. Memo to Howell:
