Do you want to know why Mother's Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is one of the most powerful lobbies in this country? The answer to these seemingly complex questions is actually quite simple and can be summed up in two (2) words: "Aaron Hinman", the 24 y/o who is pictured below...
On Saturday night, August 15th, 2015, 24 y/o Aaron Hinman drove his Ford F-150 into the Stille family home, literally inside of the Sheffield, Texas home, killing four (4) y/o Jonah 'Cookie' Stille (who is pictured below), who had been lying alongside of his twin and another of his five (5) brothers.
Per authorities the impact killed little Jonah instantly as his twin and older brother looked on in horror. Aaron Hinman was arrested and charged with both "intoxication manslaughter" and injury to a child. According to a GoFundMe page (which you can access here) the Stille family had recently moved to Texas from Illinois, where Jonah will be buried. Per the Stille family Pastor Andy Vanderwier: "Jonah went from sleeping to being in the arms of Jesus and it was pretty traumatic. Mark Stille, Jonah's dad, heard this man driving and thought there was a police chase underway, so he had stepped out his front door to see what was going on. Mark stepped off of the porch and got just far enough off of the porch that he saw that F-150 plow into the end of his home." Apart from the GoFundMe page tributes have been written on a temporary wooden wall erected on the side of the family's home, with many that read "we love you Cookie".
Pastor Vanderwier has helped to raise more than $18,000 for the Stille family and to the public he says: "I have never ever seen anything positive come from drunk driving and the reality is it will claim your life and the lives of others now this young man that wrecked into the house, I don't think he set out to do it, I don't know but his life is forever changed." Memo to the Folks:
None of the articles that I read disclosed Aaron Hinman's BAC, so this blogpost is entirely based on the premise that the reports that he was DUI are in fact true. But, even if they are proven not to be true, even if Aaron Hinman was stone cold sober and only swerved to avoid a nun who had run into the street in front is his F-150, still, statistically speaking, somewhere, sometime soon, some one else will do what Aaron Hinman was arrested for on this Saturday past. Please, pretty please, don't drink (or use) and drive. Cab, Uber, Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn..... Do what you have to do to protect yourself, your family and others (to whom you owe a duty of care, whether you know or like it or not).
When it comes to the subject of drinking and driving, the best advice that you are ever going to hear is: "Don't do it! Get a DD (Designated Driver), not a DUI".
Be smart{er than Aaron Hinman}: Don't drink and drive, but, if you do, just say "NO{thing}", don't blow (in FL your 2nd subsequent refusal is a crime) and call me stat at 305-381-8686, 305-798-2220 or 1-888-SHARK-8-1.
