Meet 25 y/o Laquanda Newby of Henrico County, Virginia. That's her mug shot below...
On May 26, 2015 Henrico County, Virginia Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the parking lot of a local Sam's Club after getting a report of a child left behind in a hot car. By the time that they showed up at the scene this Mother-of-the-Year (not) had already returned to her car, so cops let her leave the scene with both her car and her kid, but with the condition that she turn herself into police at a later date. Well that later date turned out to be Monday, June 8th, 2015.
On this past Monday Mommie-Dearest showed up at the Henrico County Courthouse as promised, but she apparently did not learn her / "the" lesson, namely...
While this moron was inside of the air conditioned building attending to her business her children, aged one (1) and six (6) were left sweltering, locked inside of her hot car with the windows up and the engine off, for at least an hour (note that it was reportedly ninety (90) degrees in Henrico County, Virginia on Monday, June 8th, 2015).
Just as was the case at Sam's Club two (2) weeks earlier, and yet again, someone saw the young children inside of the locked car and alerted police, who this time were just yards away in the Henrico County Courthouse. Per Henrico Sheriff's Capt. David Kinkle: "Had a citizen not alerted us to this, it's a situation that would've turned out much differently." Police are not certain precisely how long the children had been in the car but surveillance video that shows the time when their dopey mother entered the courthouse suggests that it had been more than an hour. Again, per Capt. David Kinkle: "Their shirts were wet, sweat rolling off their brows. They seemed to be OK, but it was very hot." Police treated the sweaty children to water and snacks while they waited for their father to arrive; meanwhile their mother was booked into the jail on three (3) counts of contributing to the delinquency or abuse of a child.
