Meet Orange, Tx Police Officer Eric Ellison... That's him below...
Officer Ellison was a first responder on May 24th, 2015 at the scene of a motorcycle crash which resulted in the deaths of Riley and Emily Portie (pictured below), who were parents to five (5) children and who were struck and killed by a drunk driver in Orange, Texas one (1) week ago today.
Officer Ellison was tasked with breaking the terrible news to the surviving kids, including son "Kazzie", who just so happened to be the deceased couple's youngest son and was home alone when Officer Ellison arrived to deliver the tragic news. When the eighteen (18) y/o boy told told Officer Ellison that his graduation was mere days away Officer Ellison told Kazzie that he simply could not miss such an important day. Per Officer Ellison: "I said, "You are going to walk. Your mom and dad will have front row seats looking down from heaven, and I'll stand in their place. I've got your back." And, true to his word, when Kazzie walked on stage to receive his diploma Officer Ellison, dressed in his uniform, was right there, waiting for the graduating teen to reach the end of the stage before they shared an embrace, , just as he promised to do. And, reportedly, the entire stadium at the Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School gave Kazzie a 40-second standing ovation as the teen walked to receive his diploma on Saturday.
Per Kazzie's step-brother, Blake Henning: "There wasn't a dry eye in the stadium as my brother walked." Blake described Officer Ellison as a "genuine guy", stating that: "Not only was he the one to inform our family of this tragedy, he was on the scene and stayed with my parents until the paramedics arrived. He was genuinely torn up about the entire accident." Per Kazzie: "Seeing Officer Ellison at the end of that stage "meant the world to me. It was so nice to see that he actually showed a genuine care for me and my family's situation instead of being just another case." Per Officer Ellison: It was "the 'right thing to do' after having to be the 'bearer of bad news". Oficer Ellison later wrote on his Facebook page that he was merely doing what he would want someone else to do if he had left his daughters too soon. "I just want everybody to remember that through this tragedy, this was all about Kazzie... and his day to shine." Per me: Mega-Props to Orange, Tx Police Officer Eric Ellison. You are a good man, a good example and a good cop.
