Cops are, of necessity, always on alert. They never know what to expect at their next dispatch, what eventuality may surface at their next encounter or what surprise may next appear out of nowhere. In that regard I submit as "Exhibit A" Ken Henderson of Independence, Missouri and his 21 y/o pet alligator, named "Babe"...
On Saturday, June 27th, 2015 two (2) Wentzville, Missouri Police Officers (Anderson and Houtz) were on routine patrol when they were stopped by Ken Henderson, who was desperately seeking directions to the nearest hospital for his very green friend in the back seat. Ken explained to the Officers that he owns Reptile Worlds, in Independence, Missouri, that he was on his way to "Animal Talk", a medical center in Wentzville but that he had gotten lost along the way (per Google Maps it's a 200.2 mile / 2 hour and 57 minute drive from Independence, MO to Wentzville, MO).
No doubt both well aware and eager to do their job (i.e. "to serve and protect") the officers helped take Henderson and "Babe" to the nearest animal clinic by providing a police escort, and they got a picture with Babe for their good deed.
As it turns out "Animal Talk" was hosting an event wherein it was offering free exams that day to introduce it's new veterinarian Dr. Jacob Lucas. Henderson had been concerned about 21 y/o Babe because he'd seemed sick as of late, so he pounced on the opportunity at a free veterinary examination for Babe.
Once they arrived Dr. Lucas gave Babe an X-ray and discovered a heart-shaped stone in Babe's stomach.
Doctors are not yet sure as to how they will remove the swallowed rock but babe is expected to recover. We're not so sure about Officers Anderson and Houtz, but they definitely have a unique new close encounter of the reptilian kind to report.
