Random Act of Police Kindness: In Lieu of Arrest a Cleveland Cop gives a Homeless Man the Shoes off of his own Feet on a 15F Degree Night ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

In a random act of police kindness Cleveland Police Officer Jose Sadalua (no picture of this hero is available) decided to literally give a homeless man the shoes off of his own feet rather than harassing or arresting him for loitering.

Patrolman Jose Sadalua was with other officers as they responded to a complaint about a homeless man sleeping in the entrance way of an apartment building on a cold Cleveland evening.

The homeless man, 57 year old Glenn Kline (pictured below) is described as "a fixture in Cleveland's West 117th neighborhood".  He has been homeless for many years and reportedly feels unsafe in shelters.

Several officers had arrived on scene and, rather than taking the easy out and simply arresting Glenn, instead they asked what they could do to help the man who was apparently trying to stay warm as temperatures dropped to their low of 15 degrees.

That is when Officer Sadalua, a 17-year veteran, literally removed his shoes and gave them to Glenn.

After this selfless act, Officer Sadalua had two (2) requests:  1)  He asked permission to to go home so he could get another pair of shoes in order to finish his shift and 2) Not wanting anyone to find out about his act of kindness he asked his fellow officers not to tell anyone, but, naturally, they ended up spreading the word anyhow (with one of Jose Sadalua's colleagues going on the record and saying that Officer Sadalua did not do what he did for attention but simply because that is "just who he is").

After the incident Glenn Kline was interviewed by local television news (you can see some of that by clicking here) where he expressed his gratitude for Officer Sadalua's good deed.  As for the shoes, Glenn said that "They fit good and everything".
