Joe and his unnamed ex-girlfriend (pictured together below) have a baby together.
The couple were reportedly involved in a bitter custody dispute when things went south and Joe went West, literally, with his ex stuffed inside the trunk of his car.
Joe was arrested at a McDonald's more than two hours away from the home where he abducted his ex-girlfriend, and she was rescued thanks to her own mother, who was able to help police track down the estranged couple using an iPhone GPS app.
Joe went back inside to drop off their child and while he was gone his ex was able to get her cellphone and text her mother for help. When she saw the text the victim's mother called the cops. As Joe drove West on I-80 his ex's mother was able to track her daughter's movements thanks to the iPhone app Find My iPhone.
Police were eventually able to locate Joe at a McDonald's in Milesburg, Pennsylvania which is more than a two hour drive west from where he kidnapped his ex. Joe was charged with kidnapping, unlawful restraint and false imprisonment. Memo to Joe:

The ex, whose name and age have not been reported, told police that Joe had become aggravated when she said she did not want to see him any more and could only speak for 30 minutes. The former couple had met at his grandmother's home in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania to discuss the custody of the young child they have together. When she tried to leave Joe reportedly shut the bedroom door where they were speaking and refused to let her leave, taking away her cellphone, which he wrapped in aluminum foil, and duct-taping her wrists together. Joe then reportedly drove the victim and their child to a friend's house, where he planned to drop the child off. While Joe was walking towards the house his ex was able to free her hands and she tried to start the car with a spare key, but not before Joe heard, causing him to run back to the car and start pounding on the windows saying that things would get much worse. Joe then reportedly got back into the car, this time duct-taping his ex's wrists, ankles and mouth and forcing her into the trunk of the car.
