CA Man with 14 Years worth of Meth and Mug Shots Literally Personifies the Degenerative Face of Prolonged Methamphetamine Use ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

At one time (back in 2002), Matthew Joseph Medlin was a handsome 18 year-old.  He was so attractive that his first police mugshot makes him look like a model.

Fast forward just a little to later that year and...

then skip up to 2007 and...

and by 2011...

when we hit 2013...

and in 2015....

And that is the transformation of Matthew Joseph Medlin, reported meth addict extraordinaire who, on Saturday, January 20th, 2016 was arrested after a four (4) hour stand-off with police during which time he actually injected himself with meth while "negotiating" his surrender with officers.  The incident reportedly began when Portland, OR police were called to investigate reports of an "unknown figure climbing trains" in the Portland rail yard. When the cops approached him, Matt, who happened to be a fugitive (being wanted for a parole violation), reportedly jumped into an open-topped, dumpster-style train car and refused to come out.  Officers surrounded the car while Matt seized rocks and pieces of metal for weapons, and a four (4) hours stand ensued.  Police claim that they tried to talk Matt out of the car but that he responded by injecting himself with more meth, causing him to behave even more erratically. The standoff continued through a thunderstorm and hailstorm, and ended when Matt was both tasered and shot with non-lethal rounds.)

Matt reportedly later told police that he'd been on meth and had been awake for 26 hours.

Memo to the Folks:

Memo to the Folks continued:  Matt's story is truly sad, and not just for him but for all addicts.  It is neither enough nor is realistic to simply toss folks into prison and hope that they overcome their addiction(s), for addiction is a disease, and it must be treated accordingly. Unfortunately, when it comes to addiction in order to effectively treat it the host needs to want to be treated.  Ironically it's like the old joke:
