Just like my own PetSmart here in North Dade (which partners with "Adopt-a-Stray" - yes, this is a shameless plug for my friend Leslie Wynne and her organization, who and which selflessly strives to help furry friends find their forever homes, their website is found here, - by bringing in lots of kittens and cats, interviewing and facilitating the adoption of potential families), Ruff Start Rescue operates in Minneapolis, similarly helping furry friends find their forever homes.
However, on Friday, February 6th, an as of yet unidentified, albeit an apparently conscientious and polite man, believed to be pictured below, skipped the adoption process and stole a three (3) month old kitten named "Wednesday" by slicing the lock on her cage with a box cutter.
As any caring foster parent / responsible adult would react, Azure Davis, (Minneapolis' functional equivalent of my own Leslie Wynne) called the cops and reported the cat-napping (which, sadly, is not considered a "napping" as it doesn't involve a human and therefore is classified as a "theft" instead); however, according to reports (and I've read a lot of them), the Minneapolis PD declined to even investigate the theft as the "value" of the item in question (pictured below) was $150.00.
In this regard, and to the Minneapolis Police Department Officer(s) who responded and had about as much compassion as an Auschwitz prison guard.... F*CK YOU. If I were Azure then you could bet your lazy, worthless asses that I would file a formal grievance. Forgetting the legal technicality which permits (perhaps "requires") the cops to treat this napping as a theft, since when do cops have a dollar valued floor on doing their job and investigating crime? What if it were a robbery and only "tree-fiddy" were taken? This was an armed theft for ___'s sake!
Just to be clear that you get this message MPD....
You are lucky you are 1,501 miles away and that I am not a material witness because I would promise you a PR f'ing nightmare for your incredible douchebaggery....
Fortunately, as it turns out, this story has a happy ending because the following day, possibly in response to a Social Media campaign for return of the kitten or maybe just due to a pang of conscience by the napper / thief, the kitten was returned to PetSmart unscathed on Saturday, February 7th, 2015. Further, the kitten (who was positively identified by scanning her chip) was returned with a note...
So it seems that the polite napper, er thief, wanted to give someone special a forever family member but did not have the adoption fees, so he stole her, but he returned her, and all is well... all except the BS policy of the Minneapolis PD, which I still cannot fathom.
