Maraschino cherries... Who doesn't love them?
They go great with ice cream...
And naturally with pie.....
And with adult beverages.....
And even with those for the kiddies....
But who knew how well they blended with marijuana?
Apparently Arthur Mondella, 57 y/o third-generation owner and president of Dell's Maraschino Cherries, which had been operating in Brooklyn, NY for some 73 years knew.
In 2013 Brooklyn's District Attorney's office had received a tip off about the a marijuana growing operation at the cherry plant, kicking off a year and a half long investigation. Yesterday (Tuesday, February 24th, 2015) some twenty-five (25) investigators, armed with "environmental offense warrants", served and used them at the cherry factory with hopes of finding marijuana. (Yes, law enforcement does shady crap like this all of the time... and the Courts permit it.)
Mondella cooperated with the investigators as they executed their environmental warrants for some five (5) hours.
At about 1:30 pm one of the investigators smelled marijuana behind a wall in Mondella's office (the wall turned out to lead to a secreted room). When the investigators advised that they were going to penetrate the wall Mondella called over his sister Joanne Capece, who was present, and said "take care of my kids". He then he excused himself to go to his private bathroom where he fatally shot himself with a .357 magnum (way to secure the search area ass clowns).
Officials from the Brooklyn District Attorney's office and environmental regulators later discovered around 80 pounds of pot and hundreds of thousands of dollars in the secret room, which was hidden by shelves in front of it which were operated with magnets. They also discovered numerous tarp-covered vintage vehicles in a back lot and believe that "there was another activity going on, that's for sure. I don't think you kill yourself over a bag of weed. There has to be more to it."
Say what you will but as far as I am concerned Mondella's unofficial operation and untimely death are a direct and proximate result of the US Government idiotic war on Drugs, specifically marijuana, which is not only morally and ethically misguided (as rationally compared to the end of prohibition and legalization of alcohol) but which encourages and fosters illegal activity by US citizens and drug cartels, both domestic and foreign. So, once again I opine....
