Decorated West Dempford, NJ K-9 Officer is given a Hero's Farewell before being Euthanized ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ **ARRESTED

Police / Law Enforcement K-9s... You either love them or hate them, but either way you can neither deny nor discount their dedication, integrity, passion, value and heartfelt desire to serve.

That said, meet "Judge"...  yes, that's him below.

Judge was "recruited" into law enforcement in 2007 and was a key player in the West Deptford, NJ Police Department until 2013 when he was diagnosed with Chushings Disease and forced into retirement due to rapidly failing health.

Judge got progressively sicker and sicker, prompting repeated hospital visits and medications, but that did not stop his colleagues from going to bat for him.  In November, 2014 a fundraiser for Judge produced a whomping $13,000.00 in contributions.  Sadly, all the money in the world would not stop the debilitating Chushings Disease from making Judge's life all but impossible. Leading up to the planned euthanization on Friday, February 20th, 2015 it was doubtful that Judge would be able to walk on his own power, but walk he did, proudly, and through a respectful and tearful audience...

And why not?  After all Judge is credited with law enforcement work which aided in the arrest of 152 people, the seizure of 3 vehicles, the removal of 3 handguns from the streets, many drug seizures, and the confiscation of more than $47,000 in cash, and that's not a bad career for a dog.

Judge made his way though an impressive honor guard, clutching his trusted training sleeve in his once powerful jaws, as he walked into the Swedesboro Animal Hospital / St. Francis Veternary Clinic for his final visit.

Even the animal hospital staff showed their respect....

No one wants to be on the receiving end of a police K-9 sent to work, and, to be sure, they do make mistakes (although these mistakes are almost always ultimately attributable to faulty trainers / training or to poor handlers), but they are also invaluable living tools, not only for law enforcement but also for military, security and search and recovery assignments.

I appreciate and love (most) dogs, but it is no secret that I am a cat guy.  One day....

RIP Judge!  And to your friends and colleagues, my condolances.  Please take a look at, and take some comfort in, the Rainbow Bridge!
