NFL is paid $5.4 MIL by US Defense Dept to Permit "Honoring" of Troops at Games ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Memo to the NFL: BOO!  For shame!

I was absolutely shocked to read this article and to learn that fourteen (14) different NFL teams (including the Falcons, Ravens, Bills, Bengals, Browns, Packers, Colts, Chiefs,Vikings, Steelers, Cowboys, Jets, Dolphins and Rams) had collectively received $5.4 MILLION dollars from the United States Defense Department over a four (4) year period (from 2011-2015) as payment to permit the "honoring" of troops at pro-football games, or at least so alleges Army Staff Sgt. Christopher Waiters (an army medic who served on two tours of duty in Iraq and one in Afghanistan).

And here I have been for years, foolishly proud as an American, as a football fan, as a supporter of our troops, watching uniformed men and women on the field and in the stands all around our great country, when apparently the sad truth is that the NFL honors nothing but money as it cashes in on allegedly patriotic albeit actually dishonest troop displays at sports games.

Staff Sgt. Waiters spoke out after it was revealed the Department of Defense and the New Jersey National Guard paid $377,000 to the Jets over the last four seasons (the Falcons were paid over a million) to honor military members at MetLife Stadium games saying: "I think it's pretty shameful that millionaires and billionaires take money from the service", and you know what... I could not agree more.  Memo to the NFL:

In response to Staff Sgt. Waiters' comments the New Jersey National Guard defended its actions by stating the displays were a useful recruitment tool. Per spokesman Patrick Daugherty: "Promoting and increasing the public's understanding and appreciation of military service in the New Jersey Army National Guard increases the propensity for service in our ranks and garners public support for our Hometown Team".

While this may be true, the NFL (which earns somewhere in the vicinity of $9 BILLION per year (making it the most lucrative sports league on Earth - source Forbes) can certainly afford not to require or to accept  tax-payer money for doing it's implied patriotic duty merely as a matter of charity, national pride and a simple "thank you" to the selfless men and women who put their lives on hold, not to fail to mention on the line, so that they can make their millions and billions year after year.

I don't know about any of you but after reading this I will not be able to look at another NFL product (whether it is an event, a piece of merchandise or an overpriced admission ticket, bottle of water or hot dog) without thinking about just how selfish and ridiculously un-giving the NFL truly has become.   Memo to the NFL:
