Take a look at Palm Harbour (near Tampa), Florida's "Ozona Blue Grilling Company".
It's a seemingly nice get-a-way right? Ahhhhh, look closer....
And while you're at it you should look closely at your bill, and, more importantly,be sure to keep your receipt... you just might need it. Meet 21 y/o Victoria Bachmann, that's her mug shot below...
Vickie had been working at Ozona Blue for a month and, in that time, she managed to scam $1,074.15 from unsuspecting customers by changing the stated tip amount on 134 separate bills. Per her Pinellas County Sheriff Office Arrest Affidavit (which you can view here): "After receiving the bill for their food, the patrons would write in the tip amount they wanted to give to the Defendant... The patrons who were victimized paid their bills using credit/debit cards, not in cash... The Defendant then would place a higher tip amount into the computer against the patron's credit/debit card without the patrons' knowledge... At the end of her shift, the Defendant would then be 'cashed out' by Ozona Blue who would in turn later request repayment from the credit card companies." Vickie's scheme came to light after the restaurant requested repayment from credit card companies and the charges were found to be fraudulent. Memo to Vickie:
That and keep your eye's wide open because...
Vickie's silver lining, if she has one, is that she is lucky that she was only charged with one count of Third Degree Grand Theft and not with 134 counts of Petit Theft. Still, the thousand that she scammed will be paid back in restitution, and she will incur all sorts of costs for her acts (from legal fees and court costs to time, effort and energy), not to fail to mention the permanent scar that she now bears as a result of her arrest and booking (which, like bad luggage, will never go away). Memo to the Folks: Think before you act. Ask yourself "is it worth it". Do a simple cost / benefit analysis beforehand. I'm sure that that grand looked a hell of a lot better before the cuffs went on Vickie's wrists.
