PA Mechanical Engineer is Arrested for DUI & Child Endangerment after a Car Crash while she was allegedly holding an 8 month old Baby on her Lap

Meet 32 year old Erika Rizzon, mom to a beautiful little boy.  That's her below...

Per her Facebook and LinkedIn pages she's an educated and successful modern family woman who lives in PA, having graduated from Columbia University and working as a mechanical engineer.  By all objective standards Erika has it all.

But if accounts of her early arrest for both DUI-accident and endangering the welfare of a child are true (Erika's mug shot is below)...

then that one poor decision - to drink and drive - is a grand, albeit tragic - example of just how easily bad things can happen to seemingly good people.

Per witness reports Erika's car struck a curb in Ephrata, Pennsylvania around 10:15 pm on a Saturday night.   Standing alone this is innocuous but, coupled with reported witness accounts that at that time Erika had her eight (8) month old baby sitting on her lap (instead of being strapped into a car seat), well that's a problem (especially for an engineer...).

Although they all agree on the facts of the arrest none of the articles that I read tell us the basis of Erika's DUI arrest so I have no reported facts upon which to comment about her decision making on that fateful evening.  I am going to optimistically hope that she was not impaired and that the cop made a bad arrest, but, even with that benefit of the doubt, it seems that there's no denying the child endangerment issue, proving, once again, that all the academic accolades in the world do not smart decision making guarantee.

Memo to the Folks:  You do not need to be an Ivy League graduate to know that child car seats exist (and are required by law in every State) for very good reasons.  Please use them.

When it comes to the subject of drinking and driving, the best advice that you are ever going to hear is:  "Don't do it!  Get a DD (Designated Driver), not a DUI".

Be smart{er than Joseph Maine}: Don't drink and drive, but, if you do, just say "NO{thing}", don't blow (in FL your 2nd subsequent refusal is a crime) and call me stat at 305-381-8686, 305-798-2220 or 1-888-SHARK-8-1.
