Genius Tries to Kill a Spider at a Gas Pump by Setting it On Fire... He Killed the Gas Pump with No Word on the Arachnid ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

An undisclosed MI man had a Common Sense FAIL! on Friday, September 25th, 2015 when he tried to kill a spider while pumping gas at a Detroit gas station using a cigarette lighter.

The man, who stayed on scene, told authorities that when he saw the spider on his gas tank he pulled out the lighter to kill it because he was deathly afraid of the eight-legged insect.  Although a fire erupted destroying the gas pump the man was able to both escape the flames and to maintain his composure enough to grab a fire extinguisher and put out the flames (you can watch the gas station's surveillance video footage of the incident by clicking here).  Per Susan Adams, an employee at the gas station in question, the motorist told her that: "He didn’t have a cigarette. He didn’t have anything on him. All of a sudden I look out and I see flames so I called the fire department."  Before the rescue team arrived, however, the man managed to grab a fire extinguisher and put out the flames. His car managed to stay in decent shape and he even dared to show his face at the gas station the next day to fill his tank.

While searching for appropriate gas station FAIL! illustrations I found the following...

Not that I don't completely understand a rational fear of spiders (Arachnaphobia)...

But unless it was either Aragog (Harry Potter) or Shelob (Lord of the Rings) then I don't think that it gets dumber than using fire to kill a spider at a gas pump.

On the other hand...
