Social Media FAIL!: Prison Inmates Get a hold of Cell Phone, Make Rap Video, Post it on WorldStar, Get Caught & Pay a Huge Price ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Six (6) minutes of video footage is worth twenty (20) years in solitary confinement, or so was the case for a group of seven (7) South Carolina prison inmates who have now been ordered to spend a combined total of nearly twenty (20) years in solitary confinement after getting caught creating a rap music video and posting it on the video blog WorldStarHipHop.

The footage was apparently taken at Kershaw Correctional Institution, South Carolina a medium security prison (pictured below) on March 18, 2014.

The inmates, who are serving time for crimes such as voluntary manslaughter and armed robbery reportedly filmed the six (6) minute footage on a smuggled cell phone while behind bars last year.  The video shows the inmates, who take turns rapping inside of a small, bare cell, while donning white shirts and do-rags, dancing, waving their arms, performing 'gang' signs, jumping up and chanting "I'm on fire, I'm on fire"' while inside of a cell at the Kershaw Correctional Institution was later uploaded to "WorldStarHipHop" where it went viral, garnering over 1,000,000 hits.

The inmates were identified and have now been sentenced to an average of a 1,000 days each in solitary confinement.

Memo to the Incarcerated Folks:  Perhaps the only thing worse than serving a prison sentence is serving a prison sentence in solitary confinement.  I get why you would want access to a cell phone but I don't get how shortsighted you could be, but then again you did wind up in prison in the first place...  For the future you should remember to follow Haber's Rules of Social Media 1 - 5:

Haber's Social Media Rule #1:  Think BEFORE you post.

Haber's Social Media Rule #2:   Once posted always posted.

Haber's Social Media Rule #3:  Don't post anything that you would not want your mother to read / see.

Haber's Social Media Rule #4:  Cops literally troll the internet looking for folks who go to, look in, download from or upload to targeted (and usually, but not always "deviant") sites.  They also conduct internet "stings", posing as children or deviants and looking to bag anyone foolish enough to take the bait.

Haber's Social Media Rule #5:  If it's even remotely relevant to a pending charge then prosecutors will cram your social media posts, and history (sites visited, searches made, etc) down your throat in court.
