Intoxicated TN Woman lets 10 y/o Drive her Car and Gets Violent w/ Samaritan & Cops ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Meet 35 y/o Laura Smith.  That's her mug shot below....

And meet John Staten, good Samaritan / citizen, who may very well have saved Laura, her 10 y/o passenger's and other lives, but not without risk and cost of his own.

Per John, he was driving his car when he noticed another car on the road in front of him swerving.  He approached and observed a young child steering the car while seated in an adult woman's lap as the adult woman was laying back in the driver's seat (John captured much of the incident on video, some of which you can see here) and unable to see the road ahead.

John pulled along side, told Laura that he was calling the cops and heard the woman tell the child to swerve into his car.  John backed off and followed the vehicle into an auto parts store parking lot where he attempted to block her in until cops could arrive.

However, Laura wasn't having that and as John  called the Memphis PD she backed her car up, right into John's truck.  Laura then attacked with pepper spray.  Per John: "I just turned and the whole time I was talking to the cops I’m getting sprayed with pepper spray".   When the cops arrived Laura was in the driver's seat of her car and reeked of alcohol.  Cops claim that she was unable to stand on her own, tripped and fell into them after exiting the car and appeared to be confused and manic (explaining her backing into John, pepper spraying him and allegedly kicking a cop).  The relationship between Laura and the child is unknown but the child's mother was summoned to the scene and took custody of the 10 y/o as Laura was hauled off, charged with reckless driving, DUI, child endangerment, public intoxication and assault. DCF was also contacted (suggesting that the child's mom may have some 'splainin to do...).

When it comes to the subject of drinking and driving, the best advice that you are ever going to hear is:  "Don't do it!  Get a DD (Designated Driver), not a DUI".

Be smart{er than Joseph Maine}: Don't drink and drive, but, if you do, just say "NO{thing}", don't blow (in FL your 2nd subsequent refusal is a crime) and call me stat at 305-381-8686, 305-798-2220, **ARRESTED, **305DUI, **MIAMIDUI, **MIAMILAW or **HABERLAW.
