Epic Parenting FAIL! In a failed attempt at Discipline a 325 lb Aunt Sits on, Suffocates and Kills a 9 y/o Girl ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1



Meet 64 y/o Veronica Green Posey of Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida.  That's her mug shot below...


Veronica was arrested and charged with child abuse and homicide for her role in the death of her niece, 9 y/o Dericka Lindsay, while other family members (who reportedly are the girls parents), 69 y/o Grace Joan Smith (left) and 62 y/o James Edmund Smith were each charged with child neglect for failing to act on the abuse (Grace also picked up a child abuse charge).


So....

Well, on Saturday, October 14, 2017, mom (Grace) called aunt (Veronica), to discipline the girl.  Aunt V reportedly first struck Dericka with a ruler and then with a metal pipe, prompting the girl to run to an armchair, where Aunt V admittedly sat on the small girl "for being out of control."


After nearly 10 minutes Dericka reportedly told the adults that she couldn't breathe but Aunt Veronica continued to sit on the child for another 2 minutes anyhow.  After about 12 minutes, when Veronica finally stood up, the girl was lifeless.  A failed attempt at CPR resulted in a call to 911, paramedics responded to a cardiac arrest call at 1.35 pm, they found the young girl unresponsive, Dericka was transported to Baptist Hospital and she was pronounced dead a short time later.


Apparently this family has had history with the child welfare system.  Mike Carroll, Secretary of the Florida Department of Children and Families, reportedly emailed a statement emailed to the Pensacola News Journal stating that:  "Dericka's death is appalling and DCF will continue coordinating with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office to hold anyone responsible for her death accountable.  As the family has a prior interaction with the child welfare system, a thorough quality assurance review will be conducted to review all prior interactions this family has had with the child welfare system."


Aunt V is out of custody, having posted a $125,000 bond, while mom, ($75,000 bond) and dad ($50,000 bond) are reportedly still inside the Escambia County jail.
