A Daycare Teacher who was Arrested for Drinking on the Job Drives to and Shows-Up at her Sentencing Hearing Drunk ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Meet 43 y/o Angela Hircock.  That's her below...

Up until March 23, 2017 Angela was a  preschool teacher employed by "Lil Scholars Too Day Care Center" in Des Moines, Iowa.

On March 23, 2017 Angela's coworkers called police because they believed that Angela was intoxicated at work.  Responding officers reported that Angela had bloodshot eyes, was unable to stand on her own and that her water bottle smelled strongly of alcohol.  Long story short, Angela admitted that she had been secreting booze in her water bottle, that she had been drinking all day, she submitted to a breath test which showed that her BAC was nearly .370 (5 times the legal limit) and she was summarily arrested on a charge of child endangerment.

In July, 2017 Angela (who, upon information and belief is not Irish) entered a guilty plea in court, was convicted of child endangerment and was ordered to appear for sentencing on Thursday, August 31st, 2017, which she did, drunk...

On 08/31/17 Angela reportedly had a BAC of .178 (more than double the legal limit) when she appeared for sentencing, and, making matters worse for herself (if she possibly could) when the Judge found out that Angela had driven herself to the courthouse she was immediately taken into custody pending (what is sure to be a perfunctory) substance abuse evaluation.

Memo to the Folks:  The take-away here is two-fold.  1)  Booze (and dope and surely a combo) can, and often times does, lead to very bad decision making.

Memo to the Folks continued:  2)  Many crimes are forgivable - that is to say that where either no actual harm occurs or where ensuing harm is reparable, then a heartfelt mea culpa goes a long way.

Memo to the Folks (2) continued:  However, showing up for court drunk (much less driving drunk to court) for your sentencing hearing for being drunk when you were supposed to be caring for children is not a cry for help; rather it is a plain, demonstrable and fundamental disrespect for the law (a/k/a "poking the bear), and it is sure to A) piss off your Judge and B) net you a significantly worse end game.
