Social Media FAIL! Convicted Felon Poses as an Attorney, Advertises on Facebook & Represented Clients in Missouri is Arrested for Practicing Law without a License ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Meet 40 y/o Reginald Taylor.  That's him below....

Reggie is a convicted felon, his previous convictions reportedly stem back as far as 1999 and include fraud, forgery, drug possession and auto theft, so he has plenty of experience with the criminal justice system (perhaps even more than many actual real world licensed lawyers... but all that experience does not a lawyer make).

Yet apparently Reggie decided that a career in criminal law was a better choice than a career as a criminal defendant so what did he do?  Weeeellllllllll, Reggie created a Facebook page called "Taylor & Associates, LLP", upon which he advertised to provide legal services covering 'Personal Injury, Construction Accidents, Contracts, Traffic and DUI/DWI" cases.  By the time that it was discovered Reggie's Facebook page has been active since 2013 and has two reviews, one five-star and one three-star (in fact, as of this moment the page is stillup and running and you can access it by clicking here).   The Facebook page shows selfies of Reggie in a shirt and tie and a fancy book shelf full of law books.  There is a photo of a t-shirt that bears alleged law firm's name and phone number and a post which reads: "We just increased productivity and the size of our support staff. We’re fortunate enough to be able to purchase some up-to-date office equipment from Micro Center."  Although the page is still up the phone numbers associated with the firm are now out of service.

So how did Reggie get caught?  And what damage did he do over the past 3 years? Apparently Reggie had successfully negotiated a client's drug paraphernalia charge down to a $229 fine for littering, and Reggie paid the fine for the client, but the check that Reggie tendered bounced.  So the Clerk of Court set out to locate Reggie, first calling him at the phone number on his check but instead of reaching "Taylor and Associated, LLC" the Clerk reached a lawn care business.  As it turns out the woman who answered the phone was Reggie's mother and, later, when Reggie was finally reached, he denied having been in court. Well, by this time the Clerk was suspicious. It was quickly discovered that the Missouri bar number that Reggie he had given to the Court actually belonged to an attorney in Columbia, and so an investigation commenced and Reggie's long rap sheet was discovered.

Grandview, Missoouri City Prosecutor Roger Potter reportedly stated that he meets with dozens of attorneys every day and that he doesn't check the Missouri bar results for each one.   In Reggie's case, "He came in dressed in a suit and represented himself as a lawyer. It was the clerks who dug into it, they pointed him out."

It is unclear just how many times Reggie actually appeared in court pretending to be a lawyer.  Apparently there is a record of him appearing one time in Grandview Municipal Court and no record of him ever appearing in either Kansas City Municipal Court or the court in Blue Springs.  However, in Belton a court official said that Reggie had attempted to sign in as a lawyer in 2015 but that he wasn't in the court's records so an investigation was opened.  Reggie's roommate was interviewed and reportedly said that Reggie had represented him in the past and that Reggie had seen other clients in the "law office" that Reggie ran out of the home.

And so now, having added to his already impressive criminal history with new charges of Forgery and Practicing Law without a License, Reggie will get to appear in court once again, for his Swan Song, but this time as a Defendant and not a defense lawyer.

Memo to Reggie:  Stop playing lawyer and hire one!  Do not appear pro se, acting as your own lawyer, because...
