Generous Off-Duty Massachusetts Police Officer Pays for Driver's Gas when the 53 y/o Man didn't have enough Cash to Cover the Cost at the Pump ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

When 53 y/o Paul Zabawa pulled into a Speedway convenience store / gas station on Monday, August 8th, 2016 with only $1.79 on him he was in desperate need of fuel.

Paul mistakenly pumped $20.00 worth of fuel into his car before he realized that he had been looking at the wrong pump.

Paul gave all the cash that he had to the attendant but the attendant told Paul that he would have to call the police.  Coincidentally, not-yet-on-duty Northampton Police Officer Michael Szawlowski pulled into the Speedway at that time to buy water before his shift began.

The store clerk asked Officer Szawlowski if he could take a report then and there but as the officer was off duty he advised that the police station would have to dispatch an on-duty officer, and then he left.  Just a minute later, however, Officer Szawlowski returned, asked the amount owed and wound up paying for the gas that Paul had pumped.  When Paul offered to repay him Officer Szawlowski said: "Don't worry about it at all."  Officer Szawlowski reportedly later said that he wasn't looking for attention, that he felt sympathetic and tried to resolve a simple misunderstanding.  A most grateful Paul Zabawa told local press that "Officers are taking a lot of flak for negativity.  There are good people out there."  Northampton, Massachusetts Police Officer Michael Szawlowski is definitely one of the good guys!
