CA Man Driving a Go-Kart Leads CHiPs on a High-Speed Chase on a Oakland Highway ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

There's nothing unusual about CHiPs being involved in a high speed chase on an Oakland highway, but then again the California Highway Patrol doesn't usually chase Go-Karts on the highway (you can watch some video footage of the scene by clicking here)...

But on Sunday, June 26th, 2016, that is precisely what happened... an unnamed man on a a small blue go-kart began to race down Interstate 880 in Oakland alongside of Lake Merritt.

Some of the scene was filmed (again, you can watch the video footage of the scene by clicking here) from at least two (2) vantage points.  One (1) video was apparently shot from the sidelines of the interstate as a group of bystanders cheered on the go-karter (who himself gave a wave as his passage was cheered on) while the other video was apparently shot by someone who was holding a phone out of a car window, showing the police, with lights flashing, just a few feet behind the go-karter, who shows no signs of slowing down.

Snapchat messages read:  "High speed on the go-kart tho", "Lake Merritt, Oakland, California" and "MOBBIN".

Apparently Oakland has an annual go kart and dirt bike ride (likely unsanctioned and similar to the ATV / dirt bike mayhem that we periodically experience here in the 305) and this knucklehead decided to double down on his douche baggery.

Below is a picture of a Miami intersection on January 18th, 2016, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  I am quite sure that the good doctor is looking down shaking his head in disbelief.

Memo to the Folks:  Please enjoy your recreational vehicles.  That is what they are for...  enjoyment.  But do not be reckless or just plain stupid by endangering your life and the lives of others, civilian and law enforcement alike.  Oh, and when the cops put on their red and blue flashing lights and you fail to stop you have committed a felony (in FL anyhow).  Fleeing and Eluding is no longer a misdemeanor offense.
