Selfless Police WIN! ~ Newark Cops Volunteer to let Terminal Teen fulfill Bucket List Wish to Shoot Cop with a Taser ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Meet 16 y/o Alyssa Elkins, a terminally ill teenager who lives on a farm in the village of McConnelsville, in Morgan County, Ohio, who suffers from leukemia, who was told that she has one (1) - six (6) months to live, and who reportedly has decided not to go through with a second round of treatment in order to spend more time with her family.

Alyssa drew up a bucket list of things she would like to do before she passes away and among her wish list was to fire a Taser at a willing person, more specifically Alyssa reportedly wanted to fire a taser at a police officer volunteer, and the Newark Police Department answered the call, agreeing to partake in the unique event.

The first of six (6) officers to volunteer was Sgt. Doug Bline, who is pictured below being flanked by two (2) fellow officers.

After a brief training session on the use of a Taser Alyssa, donning a fitted Newark Police uniform shirt with her name on it, took aim and fired.

Around fifty (50) people were reportedly in the room watching Alyssa fulfill her wish of Tasering a policeman.  Another sergeant, Sgt. Al Shaffer, reportedly asked those present to shout "Taser! Taser! Taser!", with Alyssa firing on the third "Taser", after which a selfless Sgt. Bline winced in pain and was slowly escorted to the ground after being voluntarily shot.  (You can watch video footage of the nontraditional event by clicking here.)

Alyssa also got the unexpected opportunity to Taser her uncle Barry, who is a both State Highway Patrol Trooper and who was the one to give her the inspiration to fire a Taser after she had watched a video of him getting hit by one during his police training.

Per Sgt. Bline:  "It's painful, but given her situation, it's a no-brainer.  If I were her parent in this situation, I'd be happy to know that someone was willing to do this for her."  Sgt. Bline also reportedly commented that this had the side-benefit of serving as "an educational opportunity to show that Tasers are a very safe, effective way to subdue someone".

Speaking about the day Alyssa reportedly said: "God loves everybody and he's for us and not against us. He puts us through trials.  In the end, I'm not really scared. If he takes me, I know where I'm going."  And, according to Alyssa's mother:  "She'd never hurt anyone.  My other daughter wasn't even sure Alyssa could push the button, that she'd be too afraid to hurt somebody."  Well we now know who won that bet... :-) Alyssa's bucket list also reportedly included petting a miniature pig, which came along to the taser firing with her.   Memo to Sgt. Doug Bline and the Newark Police Department:  Thank you.  Stories like this one are precious and, sadly, also way too far and in between.  This is a Police WIN!
