Pilot Arrested in Cockpit of Boeing 737 @ 7am w/ 99 Passengers after Co-Pilot reported him for being Intoxicated w/ BAC 3x the Legal Limit ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Meet 37 y/o commercial pilot Captain Miroslav Gronych.  That's him below....

And here is Miroslav proudly seated in the pilot's chair, presumably ready for flight...

But on Thursday, December 29th, 2016 'ole Miroslav was in quite a different position in the pilot's seat of his Boeing 737, looking more like this knucklehead...

At about 7:00 am that morning Miroslav boarded a Sunwing Boeing 737 along with 5 other crew members and 99 passengers, but his "bizarre behavior" alarmed the gate crew, who informed the co-pilot, who in turn found El Capitain slumped over in the pilot's seat and called the police.  (You can watch actual video footage that was posted onto YouTube of Miroslav stumbling his way though TSA - or whatever the Canadian equivalent of TSA is at the Calgary airport that morning by clicking here.)

Cops arrived quickly, removed Miroslav from the aircraft and took him to the air traffic office where he reportedly continued to display what authorities called an "extreme level of impairment" about two hours later.   Per Staff Sergeant Paul Stacey: "He was showing signs of impairment, enough so that the gate crew were concerned and then they found him actually slumped over in the pilot's seat", and Shawn Logan, a reporter and an assignment editor for the Calgary Sun / Calgary Herald tweeted that:

Miroslav was charged with having care and control of an aircraft while being impaired, and having care and control of an aircraft while over the legal blood-alcohol limit of 0.08.  As he was in Canada on a work visa he was reportedly required to surrender his passport and has reportedly been barred from flying in Canada pending resolution of his criminal case.

The Cancun, Mexico bound plane departed not long after Miroslav was removed and a new, sober, captain, took the controls.  Per a Sunwing Airlines representative:  "We are very appreciative of our crew's diligence in handling this very unfortunate matter. We are very apologetic for any upset that this has caused and would like to assure our customers that safety remains our utmost priority.  This is the first such incident that has occurred in our 11-year history as an airline."  That's nice but...

Memo to the Folks:  DUI is a disaster waiting to happen, but FUI... well there's not much that's scarier than that.

When it comes to the subject of drinking and driving (or boating or flying), the best advice that you are ever going to hear is:  "Don't do it!  Get a DD (Designated Driver), not a DUI".

Be smart{er than Captain Miroslav Gronych}: Don't drink - OR FLY - and drive, but, if you do, just say "NO{thing}", don't blow (in FL your 2nd subsequent refusal is a crime) and call me stat at 305-381-8686, 305-798-2220 or 1-888-SHARK-8-1.
