Social Media WIN! Theft Victim Posts Surveillance Footage on Facebook, Thief is ID'd, Victim sends Perp a Friend Request, Teen Surrenders to Cops ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1

Meet Stefan Tergesen.  That's him below...

Stefan is the proprietor of H.P. Tergesen General Store in Gimli, Manitoba, Canada, a historic store which has been in business since 1899

After his shop was burglarized Stefan posted stills from the surveillance footage of the thief on social media.

The video was shared more than 8,000 times and by the next day the unidentified man in the video had been identified.  Once Stefan knew who the thief was, rather than calling the cops, Stephan sent the burglar a Facebook "friend request."

Incredibly, not only did the suspect accept the friend request but apparently his guilt appeared to have got the better of him, as he sent Stephan a message saying he had gone to the police.  "I turned myself in, I couldn't live with what I did and I'll be returning everything.  I'm willing to face the consequences and I couldn't be more sorry for what I did. I was intoxicated and not in my right mindset."

Stephan appreciated the teen going to authorities, replying that:  "You are doing the right thin turning yourself in. It could only be worse if you didn't."

Manitoba police confirmed that a 15 year old boy had turned himself over to police at the Gimli Station while being accompanied by his mother.  They also confirm that the boy returned all of the stolen goods (half a dozen watches).  The boy will reportedly be charged with burglary, criminal mischief and theft.
