An unnamed 11 year old Minnesota boy stole a ready-mix concrete truck and smashed two police cars as he led officers on a high speed chase at speeds up to 70 mph (you can watch video footage of the scene by clicking here).
The boy reportedly stole the cement mixer at around 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 20th, 2016 in Dodge Center from a contractor who had left the keys inside of the vehicle. The boy reportedly started off from Dodge Center, was initially spotted on Highway 14 when a state trooper pulled him over for speeding, but he fled and hit a police cruiser. Police said that the boy sped through gravel roads at speeds up to 70 mph and that he slammed into another police car. At one point, the front right tire started smoking when the truck drove over a "stop stick" (which is a device that is used to puncture tires) that was placed on the road by the police, but the boy continued to drive on the rim after the tire fell off.
Still, even that didn't stop the determined 11 year old, who was followed from above by helicopters and on the street by police cruisers, from driving through residential streets for more than an hour. In fact the chase ended after 72 minutes when the boy drove into a cul de sac and tried to flee on foot. No one was injured in the chase but two (2) police cruisers were mangled and the truck caused severe damage to the streets after the boy continued to drive for several miles without a tire.
Police also said there was significant damage to the front of stolen truck, which , before the impromptu joyride, appeared to police to have been new.
Memo to the Folks: It's all fun and games until your 11 year old steals a dump truck, leads cops on a 72 minute high speed chase and destroys a bunch of public and private property.
