MN Police published a #Happy4/20 Tweet Advising Recreational Marijuana Users of "Undercover Operations" with "Discreet Traps" to Catch Stoners ~ Call Michael A. Haber, Esq. @ 1-888-SHARK-8-1







Wyoming (not the 44th State admitted to the Union... the other Wyoming) is a small town in Chisago County, Minnesota, with a population of 7,791 (as of the 2010 census).




At the stroke of midnight on July 1st, 2015 medicinal marijuana officially became legal in the State of Minnesota.  But, as with many States, Florida included, legalizing medical marijuana does not mean that marijuana is legal.  In fact, marijuana remains a controlled substance in MN (and in FL and many other States with legal medicinal marijuana) and so, unless you are properly licensed for medical reasons, possession of marijuana remains a criminal offense in most States.  This may not be logical but is the law (it's also not preferable, rational, reasonable, sane or sensible...).




Still, absent serious marijuana offenses (trafficking, cultivation, sale - especially near schools or religious institutions, etc.), or ass-clowns who flaunt their disrespect for the law by blatantly toking away in public, many police officers and police agencies could care less about personal use of small quantities of the 'ole loco weed.  In fact, there is an international law enforcement movement that is dedicated to the complete and utter decriminalization and legalization of marijuana (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, or LEAP).  But, for now, in most States possession of marijuana remains a crime.  



Any-who.... back to the story at hand....




In anticipation of "4/20" (the informal "marijuana celebration day"), the Wyoming, MN Police Department took to Twitter with a sense of humor.  The PD posted a very funny tweet with a photo of a police officer holding a net near a pile of salty snacks and video games to catch stoners and which read: "Undercover #420 operations are in place. Discreet traps have been set up throughout the city today. #Happy420."




This Tweet has been (to date) replied to 2.7k times, shared 177k times and liked 372k times.  But this is not the first time that the Wyoming, MN PD has joked about luring stoners with snacks. They "set" a similar, albeit not quite as comprehensive, "trap" last year (published on 4/20 in 2016) featuring a photo of a box being held up by a stick and hovering over Doritos and Cheetos, which they labeled as an "Undercover 4/20 sting" operation. 




In tandem with their excellent sense of humor the Wyoming PD also used Twitter to address the serious issue of substance abuse by also Tweeting that: "If you need help with substance abuse issues please contact us & we'll find resources. That does NOT mean jail time."






Just as "Cheesetrader" replied to the 4/20 Tweet below, I agree that the world is a better place when cops have a sense of humor...

Memo to the Folks:   Happy 420!   I agree with "Cheesetrader" that the world is a better place when cops have a sense of humor,  but I have to add that the world is also a safer place when citizens respect both the law and law enforcement's authority.




Memo to Congress:  Remember Prohibition?  How'd that work out for ya'?  Wake up and smell the sensimilla!
